Making Shapes using Inkscape

For the last week or so in Mr Kerr's year 10 computing class we have been exploring with the program called 'Inkscape'. Inkscape is a program similar to Adobe Photoshop but instead we are dealing with a program that enables use to make svgs(Scalable Vector Graphics). From my past experiences with svgs... I noticed that i really hated making or doing anything with svgs. So... from that statement you think that I might've hated doing these so called 'tasks' dealing with svgs. BUT YOUR WRONG! hahaha I quite enjoy working with the program Inkscape because of it's easy interface making svgs. Its simple as abc =D. Well... not really since I need to explore the program more if I wanted to use its full potential. As I said the programs make it a lot more easier to create svgs than what I did in Control Tech typing all these weird html language.

Anyways back to topic I created these shapes using the shapes tool on Inkscape. =]
For my first example these are shapes that I created using the eclipse tool, by making segments and arcs by clicking and dragging the eclipses circular points. I made fill colours a little bit transparent to see other shapes underneath it. I also made a pie graph using a whole lot of segments of a circle.

For my next example of shapes, I created shapes using the rectangle tool. Firstly I made a cube using 3 rectangles and alternating with the shapes angles and rotation. I added a background to the rectangles for the fun of it. xD I made the oval like shape by holding Ctrl + Click and drag away or closer to make the curviness of the corners on the rectangle. To make the orb like image that I created I just made the corners curved then duplicating it and rotating each one by 45 degrees and the fill transparent.

For my last example, I create shapes using the spirals such as the rose. I Made these shapes by playing around with the inner and outer handles of the spiral. I fill in the spirals with colours to create those patterns. By holding alt + click drag made the spiral denser.

This comes to the end of my awesome display of pictures created in Inkscape by me ;D

- There are two working computers in my house.

2) Do your home computers run on Windows or some other operating system such as Linux?
- My home computers currently run on the new Windows 7.

3) Are you allowed to use a computer at home unsupervised in your own room (with the door closed) or is it in a public room where parents can see the screen?
- I am allowed to use a computer at home unsupervised in my own room and with the door closed.

4) Does your family own a laptop or netbook? Do you use it?
- My family does own a laptop, I also use it when I want to chat with my friends while watching TV in the lounge room.

5) Does your family have internet access? If so is it ADSL1 or 2, mobile broadband, cable or dialup?
- At home my family is using ADSL 1 as our internet access.

6) Does your family have wireless?
- I don’t have wireless internet but I do use a wireless router to share the internet access around my home.

7) Which browser or browsers do you use at home? Internet Explorer, Firefox, Chrome, Safari, Opera, other?
- My two computers both are currently using Google Chrome but the laptop is using Internet Explorer 9.

8) What is your preferred search engine?
- I prefer to use Google as my default search engine.

9) Does your family use VOIP (voice over internet protocol) for phone calls?
- My family doesn’t use VOIP for phone calls.

10) Have you ever made a video and uploaded it to Youtube?
- Yes, I have made a video and uploaded it onto Youtube.

11) Do you have a Facebook, Bebo or Myspace account that you use from time to time? How often?
- I have a Facebook that I use daily for the games while Bebo I don’t use anymore because it seemed boring.

12) Can you access your bank account (if you have one) online?
- I do not access my bank account online.

Shapes on Inkscape

For the last couple of lessons in Mr. Kerr's year 10 computing class, we have been playing with the star and pentagon shapes on Inkscape. Inkscape is an open source software which can be used to create svgs. SVG stands for scalable vector graphics. This type of extension allows the image to be scaled without it becoming pixelated. It is a smaller type of file type.

We learnt about the hot keys on using Inkscape and some knowledge on what some icons to. Mr. Kerr also told us that we can click on the point on the shape while holding shift, the shape will change dramatically which created some of the shapes below. I used a variation of stars and pentagons.

Mobile Phone Survey

Today year 10 computing class teacher Mr. Kerr produced another survey about mobile phones. Here are the questions that he has produced and answers that I have typed.

3) How many mobile phones have you owned so far in your life?
- I have only owned one phone so far in my life.

4) What do you use your phone for. Number in this way

2 = often
1 = sometimes
0 = never

2) phone calls
2) SMS for text messaging
2) listen to music MP3
1) take photos
1) file transfer using bluetooth
1) internet browsing
2) playing games
1) video recording

5) Does your phone have a full QWERTY keyboard, either slide out or touch screen?
-My phone has a slide out keypad.

6) How would you feel if you were not allowed to use your mobile phone anymore?
-I wouldn’t really mind much if I wasn’t allowed to use my phone.

7) Should mobile phones be banned at school because they distract students? Give reasons for your answer.
-They shouldn’t be banned due to if there was an accident at home, family members will be able to contact the student personally.
